还记得咱们学过的卡尔爷爷的那本有名的绘本《The Very Hungry Caterpillar》好饿的毛毛虫吧，这是一本有异曲同工的作品。
The Very Quiet Cricket讲述了一只刚出生的小蟋蟀，他得到了各种昆虫朋友热情的欢迎，大蟋蟀跟他说Welcome！蚂蚱跟他说Good morning！螳螂跟他说Hello...，但是小蟋蟀努力地摩擦着翅膀想要回应他们，却怎么也发不出声音，直到有一天，有另一只小蟋蟀出现了，这一次，他还会保持安静吗?
绘本封面
《The Very Quiet Cricket》是Eric Carle（艾瑞克．卡尔）的经典之作。通过这本绘本小朋友们可以学到不同昆虫的英文名称，如蝗虫locust，螳螂mantis，毛虫worm，泡沫蝉spittlebug，蝉cicada等。
卡尔爷爷把故事的时间设定在“一天之内”，借由各种昆虫向小蟋蟀问候，我们可以学到“从早到晚”的问候语言：Welcome!、Good morning、Hello、Good day、Hi、Good afternoon、How are you、Good evening、Good night。
而且通过不停重复有韵律的句子，孩子不但可以读到朗朗上口，同时了解到公蟋蟀是用摩擦翅膀的方式来发声呢。

有一个常识告诉大家哦，雌雄蟋蟀都可以听到声音，但只有雄蟋蟀才能发声，雄蟋蟀通过摩擦翅膀，会发出类似“唧唧唧”的声音，发声的作用之一就是吸引雌蟋蟀哦。
